Festival of Lights: How Diwali is Celebrated in India

Celebrate Diwali 2025 with traditional rituals, Lakshmi-Ganesh pooja, timings, mantras, and cultural significance. Bring light, prosperity, and joy into your home.

Diwali Celebration brings glitters of happiness in our lives. Arriving this year on  Tuesday, Oct 20, 2025, this lovable festival of lights spreads a positive and joyful atmosphere everywhere in India. In this blog, we will go through the importance of this special occasion by understanding the ways of commemorating Diwali 2025.

The festival of Diwali is rooted in ancient scriptures as a celebration of the triumph of light over darkness. According to the Valmiki Ramayana (Yuddha Kanda 128.106):

प्रजाजनं च तद् दृष्ट्वा मोदितं पुरुषर्षभम्।
राजा रामोऽभिषिक्तोऽयम् इति सर्वे समागता:॥

Meaning:
“When the people saw their beloved Lord Rama crowned as king, they rejoiced with great happiness and lit lamps to celebrate his return to Ayodhya.”

This verse beautifully captures the essence of Diwali — the joyous homecoming of Lord Rama and the illumination of dharma and prosperity in every home.

Diwali Rituals and Traditions

Let’s understand the functioning of celebrating India's biggest festival, Diwali:

  • Home Cleaning & Diwali Decoration: We celebrate Maa Lakshmi’s appearance by cleaning our houses and place of work, as she loves cleanliness and purity. We decorate our houses with festive essentials like flowers, diyas and multiple string lights. Performed with a sense of invoking joyfulness and vibrance in our lives.Homes are cleaned and adorned with rangolis, diyas, and flowers to welcome prosperity.

  • Lakshmi Ganesh pooja: On the main night, we all can feel a pious presence of the divine, families unite together and worship Shri Lakshmi Ganesha Ji, made easier with the help of Lakshmi pooja Kit by poojashree. The reason for worshipping Lord Ganesha with Goddess Lakshmi is to gain wisdom for mindful action and remove obstacles from life’s path.

  • Lighting & Fireworks: In our Shastras, there are mentions of fireworks. The night sky sparkles with glitter fireworks while families share sweets and gifts. It is also a part of our tradition, as we show respect to our ancestors by lighting the sky with light, which is known as ‘Akashdeep” in scriptures.

  • Charity & Giving: Many people spread kindness by executing donations in the name of  Diwali gifts as per their strengths to the needy people. Helping others is considered as auspicious and sacred, as performing worship in a temple in Sanatan Dharma. That’s the beauty and speciality of Hinduism.
